The Scottish Cultural Association of Luxembourg

Celebrating Scotland’s traditions through music, history, and community.

Who are we?

The Scottish Cultural Association of Luxembourg is an Association sans but lucratif (asbl) founded in August 2025.

Prior to the foundation of the Association, the premier Scottish event in the Grand Duchy had been the Burns Supper, organised since 1982 by a mysterious body known only as The Committee.

In 2025, faced with rising costs, the Committee concluded that its activities should be placed on a more formal footing, with a view to organising a wider range of Scottish events, and to allow the possibility of commercial sponsorship to help defray costs and keep its events affordable, especially for younger members of the Community. And so in 2025 the Commmitee became the Scottish Cultural Association of Luxembourg asbl.

Our aims

The aims of the Association are to promote Scottish culture and heritage in Luxembourg, to organize events celebrating Scottish traditions such as Burns Night, St. Andrew's Day, and Hogmanay, amd more generally to promote Scottish literature, music and dance, foster community spirit among Scots residing in Luxembourg, and encourage exchanges with other cultural groups present in the Grand Duchy.

Membership

Membership of the Association is open to any person who supports our aims.

Why the traffic cone?

The traffic cone is a reference to the equestrain statue of the Field Marshall Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, which stands outside the Gallery of Modern Art in Glasgow. By long-standing tradition, the statue of the Duke is crowned with a traffic cone placed on its head by members of the public. We chose the cone because in the spirit of the great Robert Burns, we aim to celebrate Scottish culture in all its facets, including its popular tradition of humour and irreverence, a trait we are proud to share with our hosts and friends in the Grand Duchy.
